Set of Three Ply Wood Pigeons
Set of Three Ply Wood Pigeons
Gorgi's set of three die cut wood pigeons was created as part of the Love Us Don't Hunt Us Series. The set of three pigeons have been styled on the retro 'flying ducks' - prolific in New Zealand living rooms in the late 60's and 70's. The wood pigeons are left natural and therefore can be painted if so required. A collective set of 6-9 pigeons look fantastic as an inexpensive art installation, try flying the pigeons at different angles to achieve a creative look in your chosen living space.
A few facts on the Native Wood Pigeon or 'Kereru'
Kereru or (kukupa, kuku or native wood pigeon) is New Zealand’s only endemic pigeon. Kereru is also the only surviving bird since the Moa and Huia capable of ingesting the large fruit and berries and dispersing seeds of the native trees and shrubs of New Zealand such as Miro, Tawa, Karaka, Puriri and Taraire, too large to be dispersed by other birds.
Kereru breed very slowly. Studies show that fewer than 15 per cent of chicks survive long enough to become independent. If this decline continues the species will not be able to sustain itself - their conservation is important because they play a key ecological role in the regeneration of native forest. Love Us Don't Hunt Us!
The pigeons in this set measure 20cm, 15cm, and 11cm in length (from beak to tip of tail).
